An In Depth Look At Samsung LED TV’s Features
When thinking of TV and video devices, seek out High Dynamic Range (HDL), present in most Samsung models. It adds a rich palette of colors, producing realistic shading in high definition video games. LED backlighting enhances the screen by adding additional color in the peripheral areas of the screen. The effect is known as “litwall,” which creates an illuminated fingerprint of the player’s position on the television screen. Samsung uses two types of lighting mechanisms for their TVs. The first is called the On Light, which is activated by pressing the power button. The picture tube itself consists of three glass panels with 100 LEDs. These LEDs are arranged in four quadrants, each quadrant connected to one of the other panels. Each panel is approximately 16 inches in size, which is standard in today’s televisions. The bright illumination that glows from each of the LEDs is approximately seven thousand times brighter than the average neon sign. That’s why this type of LED is referred to as “Liquid Crystal Display.” Because it is powered by the television’s power source, this type of LED is very safe to use, even for children.
The next feature is the light diffuser. This works in conjunction with the electron beam array to provide uniform brightness over the full viewing area. Unlike the previous design, however, the light diffuser has no visible seam along its edge. This means there is no gap between the various panels and the edges of the screen.
Finally, we have the screen connector. In this case, Samsung has chosen to use the standard S-video connectors for its TVs. While standard VGA and DVI connections are still available, consumers will instead need an alternative connection called the DVI-D. Connecting this set top box to an alternative source is not difficult either, since there are plenty of compatible sources that can be added to the S-video input connections on the Samsung LED TV.
The last part is the most important. This is the backlighting system itself. Samsung uses two types of backlighting for its TVs: Edge Lighting and ambient lighting. Edge lighting works with the provided S-video cables to give the TV a smoother, uniform white glow. Ambient lighting is used for the TV’s other components, such as the picture frame and the backlight itself.
Edge lighting can be turned on or off using the provided remote control. If it is turned on, Edge lighting will work around the perimeter of the full screen. On the other hand, if it is turned off, Edge lighting will just be lit up front and center on the TV itself. A very neat feature of the Samsung LED TV is that it combines these two light sources to produce a very even glow on the TV’s screen. The result is a more realistic effect than other televisions and it makes watching the TV even more enjoyable.
